PGS - Pretty Good Semantics - Demonstration

If you view the source of this page you will see:

<meta scheme="pgs" name="i" value="http://www.freebase.com/view/m/08tssl http://www.durusau.net/publications/themark.html"/>
<meta scheme="http://en.wikipedia.org" name="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genre" value="inane"/>

In Pretty Good Semantics terms that means:

  1. Where scheme = "pgs" and name = "i", and value is a set of white-space delimited IRIs, all the IRIs identify the same entity
  2. Where one (1) of the IRIs is the same as the page where that meta element appears, any meta properties are properties of the entity identified by those IRIs.
  3. In this case, the genre property with the value "inane" has been added to the entity identified by these IRIs.

One of the advantages of PGS is that any user anywhere can annonate any IRI that identifies any entity. Which means:

  1. Users don't need permission or logins to annotate IRIs that identify entities.
  2. Users in secure facilities can annotate external IRIs for their internal use.
  3. Publishers can annotate external IRIs for internal use or even sale.
  4. Plus other advantages, see the PGS posters and other documentation at: Pretty Good Sematics
